Star Wars Legends Author Teases Possible Boba Fett Movie Inspiration
A veteran Star Wars prose writer has now revealed one of his own stories could be the inspiration for that live-action Boba Fett solo film, which is reportedly in development from Logan director James Mangold.
Speaking with StarWarsInterviews.com, A Barve Like That (Tales from Jabba’s Palace) and Empire Blues (Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina) scribe Daniel Keys Moran dropped an interesting nugget, indicating Disney has indeed contacted him in the past about adapting his Boba Fett-centric short story, The Last One Standing: The Tale of Boba Fett (Tales From the Bounty Hunters).
“I’ve had a guy at Disney email me a couple times over the years regarding Lucasfilm adapting Last One Standing into a Fett movie,” Moran said. “Not asking permission, they own those works, just letting me know they were thinking about it. So that was kind. But after Solo stiffed, apparently there’s some question about the Fett movie being made.”
It was recently announced that Logan helmer James Mangold would be teaming up with producer Simon Kinberg again on a Star Wars anthology film centered on the mysterious Boba Fett, a bounty hunter who developed a rabid fanbase following his first appearance in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
But with Mangold’s next film, Ford vs. Ferrari, set to start production in California this summer, a recent report indicates that the Boba Fett movie probably won’t start production until at least 2020. With Mangold busy with production on Ford vs. Ferrari, a press tour and more, it’ll likely be a wait before his schedule is freed up.
Debuting in theaters on Dec. 20, 2019, the next Star Wars film is Star Wars: Episode IX, directed by J.J. Abrams.
