We know that it’s set to start filming this summer and that director J.J. Abrams has a finished script. Star Wars News Net was recently on a call with star John Boyega and Boyega was asked about pressure, self doubt, and more when it comes to playing Finn. “Definitely, you feel the pressure when it comes to any role, but with The Force Awakens we had so much time auditioning that the role was already built up, that by the time I got to the fourth or fifth audition, I felt like I knew who Finn was, I felt like I knew how I was going to perform him exactly. So by the time of principal photography, you know exactly where the character is going to go, and so being so heavily involved, especially with J.J. bringing us in and being able to discuss, and rehearse, it makes for an easier transition going from myself to a character like Finn.” When asked what stands out to him about interactions with Star Wars fans Boyega talked about not having to pretend to like the series because he’s a fan like everyone else. “Yeah! One thing that stands out is that I am not pretending to like Star Wars. It has been a part of my life for a very long time, I love getting into discussions with fans when I meet them, so that element to me, that’s what really makes it a dream. I grew up on The Force Unleashed video games, I read the expanded universe books, I’ve done all of that so to be able to discuss that with them and to tell them how it feels as a genuine fan is a cool thing!” Finally, Boyega was asked what’s next for him now that Pacific Rim Uprising is finally coming up. “Next for me filming wise is Star Wars: Episode IX in July, and they’ve officially given us a note to start training soon. I’m going to take a holiday before that, because I think Episode IX you know, regardless of where the story goes, and I haven’t read it by the way, is going to be all out war so I know that I’m going to have to do all I can and train for that.” We’re probably a year away from learning anything concrete about this movie but considering that this one is going to wrap up the trilogy Boyega’s prediction of “all out war” seems pretty likely. They need to wrap everything up pretty tightly otherwise fans will be insufferable and won’t let Rian Johnson, David Benioff, and D. B. Weiss make their own trilogies in peace. Star Wars: Episode IX, directed by J.J. Abrams, will star Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver with unconfirmed but assumed to be returning cast members Domhnall Gleeson and Lupita Nyong’o. It will be released on December 20th, 2019. (Last Updated March 22, 2018 8:50 pm )

screenrant.com/star-wars-9-story-details-colin-trevorrow/Everything We Know About Colin Trevorrow’s Scrapped Star Wars 9 Colin Trevorrow’s Star Wars 9 will go down as one of the great unknowns of the Star Wars saga. Trevorrow was brought in as director of the film back in August 2015, with the aim of bringing the sequel trilogy to a triumphant close. However, his time with Lucasfilm came to an abrupt end in September 2017, after two years on the project. The last few years have actually been quite a tumultuous time for Lucasfilm. Josh Trank’s Boba Fett spinoff was abruptly dropped after the performance of Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot; there are rumors Lucasfilm is still toying with the film, but nothing concrete has been heard for some time. In June 2017, Phil Lord and Chris Miller left Solo: A Star Wars Story, with Lucasfilm calling in Ron Howard to finish the movie. Shortly after that, Trevorrow exited Episode IX. He was replaced by J.J. Abrams, who is returning to finish the story he started back in 2015. While Trevorrow’s Episode IX never got out of the scripting stages, and he departed before the previous film – Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi – release, there was a concrete vision nailed down; a vision that, despite Lucasfilm’s secrecy, has begun to leak out. Here’s everything we know about Colin Trevorrow’s scrapped Star Wars Episode IX. While Trevorrow never got as far as production on Star Wars 9, some of the film was technically shot: he Trevorrow requested Johnson shoot “one extra thing” for Episode IX. Nothing is known about that scene – other than the fact it has probably been scapped since Abrams redid the story – but it presumably involved a setup from The Last Jedi that would be arduous to replicate a couple of years later (this may indicate Ahch-To). Whatever the case, it’s further evidence of Lucasfilm’s collaborative system. A similar subtle change was made in The Force Awakens in order to better set up The Last Jedi; BB-8 was originally the one to accompany Rey to Ahch-To, but Johnson requested that change so he could have an emotional reunion between Luke and R2-D2. Precious little is known about the actual scripts Trevorrow was working on, which is hardly surprising; Lucasfilm is understandably secretive about projects that are still in development. Only two things are clear; that Trevorrow originally intended Leia to be a central character, and that his plans for Rey left Daisy Ridley deeply emotional. Saturday Night Live star Bobby Moynihan told of a meeting between Trevorrow and Ridley at an SNL after-party. Ridley was excited to learn what was in store for her character, and the two disappeared into a corner to discuss Rey’s role in the film. Trevorrow’s pitch actually left Ridley in tears. There are rumors Trevorrow disagreed with some of the decisions taken in The Last Jedi, with it suggested he wanted both Supreme Leader Snoke and Luke Skywalker to be alive for Episode IX. These are unconfirmed, though; they may simply reflect fan wishes that these two controversial moments had played out differently.

comicbook.com/starwars/2018/04/05/star-wars-carrie-fisher-mark-hamill-leia-organa/Star Wars: Mark Hamill Comments on Idea of Replacing Carrie Fisher in 'Episode IX' The sudden passing of Carrie Fisher in December of 2016 not only left her family, friends, and fans heartbroken, but also sparked a variety of rumors surrounding how Leia Organa would be depicted in the future. The character's fate might be unknown, but Mark Hamill, who played on-screen sibling Luke Skywalker, knows that Fisher, as a performer and personality, could never be replaced. ”First of all, I don’t know what the specific plans were for that character but just the way Han Solo was more prominent in [Episode] VII, Luke more prominent in VIII, we assumed Leia would be more prominent in IX, especially since the dynamic of having Kylo Ren as her son," Hamill shared with Collider. "I think it would be tough recasting Carrie because she is so indelibly linked to that character." The Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson confirmed that he didn't want to alter Fisher's final performance, resulting in Leia surviving the events of the film, positioning her for a return in Episode IX. Despite the incredible advances in technology, Lucasfilm has confirmed they won't attempt to digitally recreate the actress in any way, leaving many fans to wonder about the possibilities. "They’ve already ruled out of a computer-generated performance like they did with Peter Cushing [in Rogue One] so, gee, that’s gotta be a really, not insurmountable problem, but I know that the script had been in development so that when we lost her they had to go back to square one," Hamill confirmed. "But she is irreplaceable, you know, as far as I’m concerned." In hopes of squashing many of the rumors surrounding Lucasfilm's plans, the studio released a statement weeks after Fisher's passing. "We don’t normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address. We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa," the statement read. "Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars." One theory is that, during Leia's brief time in space, she suffered irreparable damage to her vital organs, which would ultimately prove fatal. How the character's passing would be handled in Episode IX, however, is in the hands of co-writers J.J. Abrams and Chris Terrio. Fans will find out Leia's fate when Episode IX lands in theaters on December 20, 2019. How do you think Lucasfilm should handle the character's exit? Let us know in the comments below! [H/T Collider]

www.cbr.com/star-wars-episode-ix-luke-skywalker/Mark Hamill Teases Luke Skywalker’s Return in Star Wars: Episode IX Mark Hamill has teased a highly-anticipated return for Luke Skywalker in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode IX. The actor tweeted out artwork featuring his famous death scene from Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but this time with the iconic line Han Solo taught him: “See you around, kid.” Since he captioned the photo “Foreshadowing,” this suggests that he’s preparing to return to the world of Star Wars. In The Last Jedi, Luke used up all his energy to Force-project to Crait and trick Kylo Ren into battle, cleverly buying time for Leia’s rebels to escape. When Kylo finally figured out his uncle’s ruse, Luke told him, “See you around, kid” and disappeared. At that same time, the Jedi faded away into a dual sunset on the ocean planet of Ahch-To, becoming one with the Force. /photo/1?tfw_site=cbr&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbr.com%2Fstar-wars-episode-ix-luke-skywalker%2F If Hamill does indeed return in Episode IX, he’ll likely follow the likes of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Master Yoda to appear as a Force ghost. Given that Kylo killed Supreme Leader Snoke and will be using the First Order to hunt Rey and the Rebels even more relentlessly, Master Skywalker may be needed to pass down some much-needed knowledge to the new generation of Jedi. Episode IX is set to arrive in theaters on December 20, 2019. The movie will star Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren and Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron.
